You would not try to introduce yourself to a shop keeper the first time you buy a sandwich, would you?

So here are key words, the most important four phrases when you go to Japan.  Practical phrases to use when doing business in a shop or restaurant when you are thirsty or hungry.




Konnichiwa Hello

Sumimasen

Excuse me (can also mean 'thank  you')
Kore kudasai Can I have this?
Arigato Thank you
Kitte utte masu ka? Do you have/sell stamps?
Oishi! Delicious!
Mizu kudasai Could I have a glass of water?
Gochiso sama Thanks for the meal
Gomen nasai I am sorry (Japanese use it a lot)
xxx iki masuka? Are you(bus/train)going to xxx ? 
Mo ichi do? Say that again, please.
Ohayo!(+gozaimasu) Good morning
xxx docchi desu ka? Which one is xxx?
xxx doko desu ka? Where is xxx?
Kon ban wa Good evening
xxx tomari masu ka? Are you(train/bus) going to stop at xxx?
Dozo     Please, this way.
Suteki desu That is wonderful.
Kirei desu They are(It is) beautiful.
 Yokatta  It was good!
 Sugokatta  It was great/fantastic!
